Project Overview

Anglian Land Services completed a specialist tree felling project at The Warren Estate, a prestigious golf course in Essex. The project involved safely removing 10 large mature trees as part of the estate’s long-term woodland management plan. Our experienced arboriculture team worked carefully to fell each tree whilst protecting the surrounding golf course areas and maintaining the estate’s natural landscape character.

The Challenge

The Warren Estate needed to remove 10 large trees that had reached the end of their safe lifespan according to their management plan. The main challenges included working around an active golf course without disrupting play, ensuring public safety throughout the operation, and protecting the delicate turf surfaces from heavy machinery. Each tree needed careful assessment before felling to determine the safest removal method. The size and location of the trees meant precise planning was essential to avoid damage to nearby specimens, fairways, and course features.

Our Approach

We started by conducting detailed site surveys to plan each tree removal individually. Our qualified arborists assessed every tree’s lean, weight distribution, and surrounding hazards before developing safe felling methods. Our team used specialist equipment including chainsaws, rigging systems, and wood chippers to safely bring down each tree in controlled sections. Ground protection mats prevented machinery from damaging the turf, whilst our efficient working methods kept the site tidy at all times. All timber and green waste was processed on site and removed promptly.

The Results

We successfully removed all 10 trees safely and efficiently, completing the project on schedule without any damage to the golf course or surrounding landscape. The estate now has improved sightlines across affected holes and reduced hazard risks from declining trees. Our careful working methods meant the turf recovered quickly with minimal lasting impact. The timber was recycled responsibly, with usable logs processed for firewood and the remaining material sent for composting. The Warren Estate management praised our professional approach and the quality of our site restoration work.

Planning Application Landscaping

This tree felling project formed part of The Warren Estate’s approved woodland management plan, which guides the long-term health and safety of trees across the golf course. Removing these mature specimens creates space for younger trees to thrive and maintains the estate’s carefully designed landscape character. The management plan ensures tree work complies with local planning requirements and environmental regulations. Our arboriculture services support estates and golf courses in implementing their management plans effectively, balancing conservation goals with practical land use needs. We work closely with tree officers, ecologists, and planning consultants to deliver compliant tree work that enhances landscapes for future generations.
