Project overview
A private client in Little Bromley, Essex, asked us to carry out groundworks around their stable yard to make it fit for year-round use. The project involved installing new hardstanding areas, a water system, and concrete bays across the site. Our team completed the full scope of work over two weeks, transforming a yard that was difficult to use in wet weather into a practical, all-season facility.
The challenge
Horse yards are heavily used throughout the year, but wet and muddy ground can make them difficult and even dangerous to work in during autumn and winter. This yard needed a proper hard surface and a reliable water supply to keep it safe and functional no matter the season. Without these improvements, the client faced ongoing disruption to their daily yard routine whenever conditions turned wet underfoot.
Our approach
We began by preparing the ground across the yard to create a stable base for the new surfaces. Our team then laid hardstanding areas using appropriate materials to give horses and handlers a firm, safe footing throughout the site. Concrete bays were formed and poured to provide durable, easy-to-clean areas for use throughout the yard. A new water system was installed at the same time, making fresh water accessible in the right locations across the site.
The results
The completed yard now has solid, all-weather surfaces that can be used throughout the year without the problems caused by wet or churned-up ground. The new concrete bays give the client dedicated areas that are straightforward to maintain and keep clean. The water system brings reliable access to fresh water exactly where it is needed, saving time and effort in the daily running of the yard.
Planning application landscaping
Groundworks and hard surfacing on private equestrian land sometimes form part of a wider planning application, particularly where the works change how outdoor areas are used or managed. Getting these works carried out to a high standard is important both for the day-to-day use of the site and for satisfying any conditions set by the local planning authority. If you have an equestrian property or private estate across Essex or elsewhere in East Anglia that needs groundworks or hard standing areas installed, our team can help.
